SUNY Oneonta Student Virtual Support Group

Group Description

Beginning March 23, 2026, Amira the Healing Space will offer a weekly virtual drop-in support group for SUNY Oneonta students. This group is co-facilitated by  graduate students in the Mental Health Counseling master’s program at Alfred University, who are completing advanced clinical training while working under professional supervision.

College can be an exciting but demanding time. Students often juggle academic pressure, changing relationships, new independence, and uncertainty about the future. This group provides a welcoming, supportive environment where students can talk openly about the challenges of college life while learning practical skills that support emotional well-being.

Each session includes a combination of guided discussion, grounding techniques, coping strategies, and real-life skill building designed specifically for college students. Topics throughout the group cycle include stress management, time management, building resilience, navigating relationships, communication skills, managing academic pressure, and developing healthy habits that support both mental health and academic success.

Students will have the opportunity to:

• Learn grounding and stress-management techniques
• Build practical coping skills for everyday challenges
• Connect with peers who may be experiencing similar stressors
• Develop stronger emotional regulation and resilience
• Gain tools that support both academic and personal growth

The group is virtual and drop-in, meaning students may join at any time during the cycle, making it flexible and accessible even during busy academic weeks.

This group is designed to be a supportive space for reflection, skill-building, and peer connection, helping students strengthen the tools they need to navigate college life with greater confidence and balance.
