Maya Mallory, LMSW
Therapist
My name is Maya Mallory, and I’m glad you’re here.
I am a SUNY Oneonta graduate who has returned through Amira the Healing Space to provide counseling services to SUNY Oneonta students. As someone who once navigated the same campus and academic environment, I understand how challenging college can be while balancing identity, relationships, academics, and major life decisions.
I provide compassionate, grounded therapy for college students and young adults (ages 17–27) who are navigating life transitions, emotional stress, and the pressures that often come with this stage of life. My goal is to create a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly about what you're experiencing while also building practical tools to help you manage stress and move forward with greater clarity.
Students often come to therapy for support with:
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Academic stress and burnout
• Pregnancy-related stress or reproductive decision-making
• ADHD and focus challenges
• Identity development and life transitions
• Grief and loss
• Relationship challenges and loneliness
I am especially passionate about supporting students who may feel isolated, overwhelmed by difficult decisions, or unsure about their next steps. College can be a time of major change, and therapy can offer a space to slow down, process experiences, and develop strategies that support your emotional well-being.
I was born in Westchester County, New York, and raised in Dutchess County, New York. I was raised by my single mother beginning at age seven, with the support of my extended family. These experiences shaped my deep empathy for individuals navigating difficult circumstances and strengthened my commitment to supporting others during challenging life transitions.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Sociology from SUNY Oneonta and my Master of Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work. I also hold an Applied Associate’s Degree in Food and Nutrition from Morrisville State College.
My professional experience spans medical, community-based, and outpatient mental health settings. I have worked as a Case Manager at Columbia University, Psychotherapist at Tru Outreach, Jemcare, and LifeStance Health, a Dialysis Social Worker at the Rogosin Institute, and a mental health coach with Run 4 Fun. Through these roles, I have supported individuals navigating health challenges, emotional stress, and significant life transitions.
My clinical approach is integrative, strengths-based, and practical. I incorporate several evidence-based approaches including:
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
• Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills
• Motivational Interviewing
• Mindfulness and stress management techniques
• Problem-solving therapy
• ADHD-focused strategies
I am also exploring emerging somatic therapy practices to support a more holistic understanding of emotional and physical well-being.
Clients often describe me as caring, thoughtful, safe, relatable, and a great listener with a calming presence. In therapy, I aim to create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable sharing at your own pace while also building skills that help you manage emotions, cope with stress, and navigate the challenges of young adulthood.
Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy singing, which I find grounding and expressive.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, navigating a difficult decision, or simply looking for someone to talk to, therapy can be a place to slow down, reflect, and begin building a path forward.
