Therapist in Training | Alfred University
Student Drop-In Group Facilitator

Narisia Henry-Benjamin is an emerging counseling professional currently completing her Master’s training in Mental Health Counseling at Alfred University. She brings warmth, thoughtfulness, and a grounded presence to her work with young adults and individuals navigating stress, identity development, and life transitions.

Beginning Monday, March 23, 2026, Narisia will co-facilitate a weekly virtual drop-in support group for SUNY Oneonta students through Amira the Healing Space alongside Hetha Stephen-Lawrence, a fellow Mental Health Counseling graduate student at Alfred University. The group will meet weekly on Mondays at 6:45pm online.

Students may join the group at any time, creating a flexible and welcoming space for connection, shared learning, and skill-building. The group focuses on helping students navigate the common pressures of college life while building practical tools for emotional well-being.

In her clinical work, Narisia supports individuals experiencing:

• Anxiety and emotional overwhelm
• Depression and low mood
• Relationship and communication challenges
• Identity exploration
• Life transitions and uncertainty

She understands how complex emotions can become when you are trying to move forward but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of your next step. Her approach is collaborative and client-centered, helping individuals reconnect with their strengths while building clarity and direction.

Therapy Approach

Narisia integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Motivational Interviewing to tailor sessions to each individual’s needs. She focuses on helping clients better understand their emotional patterns while developing practical strategies for growth and change.

Therapeutic Style

Clients often experience Narisia as calm, supportive, and attentive. She strives to create a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where individuals feel comfortable exploring difficult emotions and experiences. Her goal is to help clients gain deeper self-understanding while strengthening the skills needed to move forward with confidence.

Before entering the counseling field, Narisia worked as a legal executive assistant, where she developed strong organizational and communication skills. She brings that same sense of structure and professionalism into the therapeutic space, helping clients feel supported and grounded in the work.

Narisia is clinically supervised by Torian Yancey, LMHC, licensed clinical supervisor at Amira the Healing Space.
